Minister of Transportation: Navigation Permit System Strengthens Bahrain’s Position as a Regional Hub for Marine Tourism

HE Dr. Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, affirmed that regulating navigation permits for visiting vessels enhances maritime safety and positions Bahrain as a preferred destination for yachts and marine tourism.

The Minister highlighted the issuance of Ministerial Decision No. (9) of 2025, allowing foreign non-commercial pleasure yachts to obtain permits directly from the Ports and Maritime Affairs Department without requiring a marine agent. The decision also permits multiple visits in a safe and sustainable maritime environment.

The initiative aims to strengthen Bahrain’s role as a regional hub for yacht tourism and promote environmental and sports marine tourism, in line with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 and sustainable development goals.

Mr. Badr Hood Al Mahmoud, Undersecretary for Ports and Maritime Affairs, confirmed that a comprehensive guide has been issued detailing entry and exit procedures for visiting vessels. The guide ensures compliance with national regulations, operation of the Automatic Identification System (AIS), immediate reporting of incidents, and completion of all permits and crew/passenger visas.
